Criminal protection of the consumer during electronic contracting
Keywords:
Consumer, Internet, Cybercrime, Electronic ContractingAbstract
The law intervenes with specific legislation to protect the online consumer against professionals and third parties because electronic contracts, concluded via an electronic network, are exposed to the risk of electronic credit fraud, particularly the distortion, destruction, or hacking of electronic information. The unique nature of electronic contracts necessitates special protection for the online consumer, especially criminal protection from the risks arising from cybercrimes. This study discusses two types of cybercrimes: electronic commercial fraud and fraud. These two crimes pose a significant threat to the health and safety of the consumer, requiring intervention to curb such crimes. However, the criminal protection provided in this context remains traditional. Therefore, a specific and clear law for the protection of the online consumer, or a law specifically governing electronic transactions, is necessary.
